A resource consent application for a helipad on private property in Westmere, Auckland has been the subject of considerable public and media attention (for example, articles here, here and here). The application recently went to hearing before a panel of three independent commissioners. ChanceryGreen (Chris Simmons) is counsel for the applicant.

The application seeks resource consent for a limited number of flights, carefully timed to minimise effects on coastal avifauna. A suite of conditions is proposed to further manage potential effects of the activities, including with respect to noise, recreation, public safety and vegetation.

The application was heard over five days in May, during which the hearing commissioners undertook a site visit.

We look forward to the commissioners’ decision, which is due to land later this month.
